A NEW STYLE FOR A NEW YEAR!

When the New Year Rolls around, I think were all thinking the same way, We want to loose weight, change our negative ways and change our hairstyles!

Well ladies, I have some wonderful and innovative ways for you to look your best in 2010!Some of you that are wearing short hair who don’t want to cut your hair any shorter but would like to change your look have many options! You can color your hair a new color or add some highlights, and for those of you who have color and wearing your hair short you can add low lights to your hair to give it some dimension.Discuss the color choice with your hairstylist who can give you color suggestions that will compliment your skin tone and lifestyle. Another way to change your look while wearing short hair would be to add hair extensions to either add fullness to your short and sexy or to elongate your bangs!

If on the other hand your wearing long hair and are in the mood for something chic, there is an abundance of options for you as well! Pulling it back into a classic chigon with a pair of long earrings is a fabulous way of showing off your facial features without cutting your hair! You could also wear it curly then straighten the ends for a tosseld look! For a more defined look, adding extensions then cutting them in a short razored cut will surely get everyones attention!

And last but not least! If your natural and tired of wearing your hair in twist or in it’s natural state, you too can switch it up in the new year! You can have your hair blown out and straightened and get your hair “shaped” into a style that will work when it’s straight or curly! I love to see natural hair straightend then curled with a small barreled curling iron it still has a natural look, just more refined! so what are you waiting for?!

The new year is here! with a different hair style, It could make you thinner looking and even help change those negative thoughts!

I love a challenge! Tell me yours you may see the answer featured here at qcitymetro.com!

IS CHEMICAL ALOPECIA THE CAUSE OF SHEDDING IN AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN?

I have been a hair stylist for 22 years and something I’m noticing is that more cases of chemical Alopecia are rising in african american women.Chemical Alopecia is caused by unprofessional use of chemicals by uniformed operators. Unless you see a licensed professional the consequences caused by relaxers and color could be devastating, like root damage, hair breakage or total hair loss.

Chemical Alopecia can also occur from high PH alkaline in high volume peroxide used to mix bleach with, in order to “lift” hair color to a lighter shade. The only way to know for sure if your experiencing hair loss due to alopecia is to see a dermatologist. Your Doctor will do a test on your scalp to find out what form of alopecia if any, has your hair shedding.SometimesYour hair loss can come from something as simple as being iron deficient.

If you are diagnosed with some form of Alopecia, you have solutions available to you! One of my clients came to me because she had been experiencing permanent hair loss in the crown of her head, to solve the problem I gave her hair extensions in the top of her head inspired by the “toupe” and razor cut it to blend in with the rest of her hair. You still can look and feel like yourself!

Talk to your stylist! He or she will help you figure out the best option for your lifestyle.

Help Wanted! Hair stylist and Make up artist for HDTV

The first HDTV sets went on sale in the US in 1998, Early Analog HDTV’S were available first in Japan in the early 90’s however, It was developed in 1993 . High Definition television as we know it today was created by a grand alliance of companies working together to create the next generation of television. They produced standards that would allow HDTV transmission to be phased into the United States.

Since digital film wrong shades of foundation, lipstick, eye color, blush and bad hair, did I say bad hair! have saturated our tv screens were seeing nose hairs of actors and dandruff resting on the shoulders of our news casters Unblended toupes and extensions that before digital you could not tell where they began or ended, now you see EVERYTHING! the weft, the bad haircut and the wrong color.

As the old saying goes less is more this quite true when applying make up for this medium. It is possible however to apply make up traditionally but you have to make sure that colors are blended properly, when choosing colors be sure to pick warm or neutral tones, cool tones tend to look neon.

Lace front wigs can be a problem because on digital film the lace in the front of the wig which is used to make the hair line look natural, on digital film can read “bumpy” so be sure to blend blend and blend again!

Short Modern Mane...

In Hollywood your hair style can either make or break you, some celebrities like Halle Berry, Toni Braxton, Anita Baker, Rihanna and Grace Jones Realized this early on in there careers. By cutting there hair short it transformed them into memorable stars and jump started there careers making them house hold names.

In an Interview with Starplus entertaninment the “Umbrela hitmaker admits that during the early stages of her career her image was totally styled by music executives! Then she went on to say she was in Paris and fancied a change in hairstyle. I had my long extensions cut off and came away with a cute bob. Someone from my record label said” it looks nice it’s just not you”. Thats when I realized things had to change. I make my own decisions now”.

When Halle Berry cut her hair off, the first thought I had was “Halle Berry is BACK!” I didn’t know who that person was hiding under all the wigs and weaves.Halle is beautiful but you can really” see” her beauty now. Thats whats so special about having individual style and wearing hair styles that look great on you, it sets you apart from everyone else.

A short hair cut can really transform your look and redefine who you are. Hlere are some great reasons to take the plunge!

Short hair will have more impact, when someone walks in the room with short hair, your eye is always drawn to them. It will take 10 pounds off of you instantly! Why? because short hair elongates the neck and cheek bones. Oh and last but not least , it will make you look younger and what women doesn’t want 10 to 15 yrs shaved off there true age! Wigs ,weaves and even if your wearing your own hair long they all drag you down, and it ends up in a ponytail anyway!

So why not reinvent your self remember the 80’s originality was key! I mean remember Grace jones? when she cut her hair in the box hair cut with the faded sides? She became interesting and everyone instantly wanted to know more about her! and how about Ms Toni Braxton? that cut with the bang straight across her forhead made her a Star! Remember when Anita Baker came out with her first album? We were immediately drawn to her hair EVERYBODY wanted the “Anita Baker! l

Listen, everybody’s free to wear what ever hair style you choose, but when you look in the mirror what do you see ? Is it you? Or is it an illusion of what you think you should look like?

LOVE YOURSELF.

Celebrity hair stylist TRACY RIGGS

I have been a hair stylist and make up artist for 22 years. From the moment I could style my barbie dolls hair, hair styling became a natural thing for me. All through school I was the designated “hair stylist” to all of my friends. As soon as I graduated from high school I went straight to Cosmetology School and not soon after going to beauty school I was the designated stylist to all of my peers, students would come to my class on “personal Day” and want me to do there hair, that feeling you get knowing that fellow soon to be stylist want you to do there hair is something that, sort of validates you, so to speak. It lets you know that your on the right track and that something that comes so effortless to you,can make people feel so good about them selves.

I was an entrepernural at 24 and after competing in several hair competitions and winning, I was asked to represent a product line call D-orum Products after a show in Philadelphia they asked me to go to London and of course I said YES! So I Flew to London twice serving as a platform artist doing hair on stage . I have also traveled to Barbados, Trinidad and New York, all in the name of hair and make up! I worked on several videos and print ads with artist like Lil Kim, Charlie Baltimore, Ce Ce Peniston, Eryka Badu, Jasmin Sulliven, Kindred and the family Soul, The Spooks and Mary J Blige .

I believe that image is something you should take seriously and I also believe that your hair, make up and personal style should reflect who you are as a person, that is why I’m so excited about writing a Beauty Column with QCity metro!

I’ll have tips on hair care , the latest in hair and make up, and the safest Shampoos and Conditoners to use and why.
